The queen of powder skiing, Dolores LaChapelle, once wrote in her iconic book, Deep Powder Snow, the following passage:
“…powder skiing is a special gift because of the relationship between earth and sky. It only comes in sufficient amounts in particular places, at certain times on this earth; it lasts only a limited amount of time before sun and wind changes it. People devote their whole lives to it for the pleasure of being so purely played by gravity and snow.”
After 7.5 feet over six days at Alta, on the heels of 100-plus inches in 10 days, this footage proves that January 2017 might be one of the all-time great ski months in recorded history. Dolores would probably back that up after skiing that much snow and then watching this.
