Lake Tahoe native Travis Ganong finished third at the Lake Louise Downhill on Saturday. The American came into this season as one of the country’s top young stars, and he lived up to the billing under blue skies at the opening World Cup race of the season. Norwegian Aksel Lund Svindal, who tore his Achilles tendon last October and sat out nearly all of last season, won the race. Italian Peter Fill finished second, .01 seconds behind Svindal. The White Circus heads to Beaver Creek, Colorado, next weekend, where Ganong will have his countryside ringing its cowbells loudly.
