In the introduction of POWDER’s new book, Monumental: Skiing Our National Parks, editor-at-large Matt Hansen writes, “These parks remind us where we came from, and that we belong to something greater than ourselves.” It’s with this spirit in mind that we sent groups of skiers, led by KGB Productions, to five national parks last winter.
By exploring Yosemite, Grand Teton, Yellowstone, Glacier, and Olympic national parks in the winter, with skis on, our writers, photographers, and skiers saw these cherished, heavily visited places in a rare light. They experienced a grandeur, solitude, and calm that is becoming increasingly harder to find on this planet. They also shredded.
In celebration of the 100th anniversary of our national parks, we produced the 142-page hardcover coffee table book in partnership with REI. It is full of stunning photos and intimate personal essays.
