World Cup skier crashes across finish line into first
Now this is the type of effort I am talking about. Just above and beyond stuff, here. After what can only be described as a loose run in the Adelboden giant slalom, Slovakian skier Andreas Zampa finally came unraveled right at the finish line. But, after crashing, Zampa took his momentum through the finish line, crossing in first place. Unfortunately, Zampa kabiffed for real on his next run, eliminating any chance of a spot on the podium.

Marcel Hirscher, who can do no wrong on the circuit this year, eventually took the win.

French patrollers die in detonation accident, more tragedy in snowbound Alps
Two ski patrollers perished over the weekend when explosives designated for avalanche mitigation detonated unexpectedly.

The accident comes on the heels of a wave of tragedies sweeping through the Alps, where avalanche danger remains at extreme levels after over 10 feet of snow last week alone. Over 26 people have died in a series of avalanche incidents, including three in a single slide in Austria over the weekend. Our thoughts are with our Euro ski family.

VIDEO: Skiing with drone fireballs
We've seen just about every type of night ski edit under the moon, but this video of a skier racing a drone with a flare attached is mesmerizing. Like a weird Terminator spinoff on skis. Not sure where they dream this stuff up, but darn glad that they do. Viva la weird shred.

Federal employees affected by shutdown ski free at Angel Fire
Angel Fire Resort already turned heads this season by offering teachers a $520 discount on season passes, and the New Mexico ski area is at it again, offering free skiing to federal employees affected by the government shutdown. The offer is good for one free lift ticket for Monday to Friday government employees that can produce a furlough letter and a federal ID. Seems that Angel Fire sees your Clemson hamburger, and raises you a lift ticket. Your move, Don Cheeto. Here’s more about the shutdown affects backcountry safety is forest service areas.
