Bode headed for the Hall
After a roller coaster career that included four World Championships, an Olympic gold, and some of the gutsiest skiing ever to be laid over, Bode Miller will be inducted into the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame. Miller will join teammate Andrew Weibrecht as part of the 2018 class, capping one of the most exciting, and strange, alpine careers in American history. Big ups to the Bodester. And even though his inexplicable “skiing on the curtains” run in the 2008 Hahnenkamm shortened downhill event probably didn’t factor into his Hall of Fame induction, it’s always worth a watch.
VIDEO: Jeremy Pancras teases comeback in new trailer
Saturday October 7, 2017, wasn't a good day for French freeskier Jeremy Pancras. After rotating halfway through a double cork 1620 at a big air competition in Annecy, France, the young skier had one of the hardest slams in big air history, breaking two vertebrae in his back and starting the long road to recover. Pancras documents his difficulties, as well as those of top athletes Torin Yater-Wallace and Tanner Hall, as they attempted comebacks to the big show. Part documentary, mostly ripping park skiing, this flick looks like it'll be one of the sneaky picks to watch this fall.
PRODUCT ALERT: Tiny wheels are coming for your skis
Forget the olden days of schlepping skis over our shoulders, the future is here. Just as SpaceX announced its first commercial flight around the moon, skiing made huge moves this week when Ski2Roll introduced two tiny wheels specially designed for those accustomed to constant public shaming. Think dragging your skis on a mini dolly, then add some bright colors to boot. Anyway, if you need a new gadget, this bad boy is available on Kickstarter for about $35.
