Congressional Bill Could Pay National Forests for Ski Area Rental
A congressional bill that could return a chunk of the $37 million in annual rent paid by ski areas operating on national forest land back to the national forests is still alive after making it through the House Natural Resources Committee this summer. The Ski Area Fee Retention Act would be part of a larger package heading to Congress, and help boost the severely under-funded U.S. Forest Service. Currently 122 of the U.S.'s 435 total ski areas operate on federal land.
Ikon Passes Hit Costco
Taking one more step toward the soulless abyss, the Ikon Pass has partnered with Costco to offer its 2018-2019 pass. The pass—which covers Aspen, Steamboat, Revelstoke, and Snowbird, among others—can now be purchased on the Costco website and includes a $200 Costco cash card, or just enough to buy a douchey pair of sunglasses and a season's supply of Twisted Tea. Game on.
