Storm Dispatch: Myoko Kogen, Japan

More than 100 inches have accumulated in 10 days—and the forecast shows no end in sight.

Leaving Whistler on Jan. 24, the night before the storm of the season came through, was a tough call. But when I arrived in Myoko Kogen the next day with Michelle Parker--shooting her Red Bull web series, "Originate"--along with Mark Abma and Steve Reska, it was clear I wouldn’t be missing the storm after all. Located in the Niigata province, Myoko Kogen is home to eight resorts, including a number of decommissioned lifts and abandoned resorts, and after a brief dry spell, it was snowing there again.

Since our arrival, more than 100 inches have accumulated--and the forecast shows no end in sight.
