The versatile Spyder Eiger shell jacket had great reviews at Thread the Needle. “This is a great all-around shell with plenty of room for layers,” said Ben Kallman. “It seems very waterproof and storm-ready. I’d use it uphill and downhill.” The three-layer Eiger is made from a stretchy nylon, Spyder’s Hydroweb laminate membrane, which adds top-notch breathability and waterproofing, and their Spylon DWR finish.
“It’s very breathable, with a clean all-black look,” said Dane Weister. “It’s a work-horse jacket. I would wear this at the resort or in the backcountry any day.” Oversized chest pockets and long mesh pit zips round out the Spyder Eiger. The only negative feedback it received at Thread the Needle was that the neck cuff was a little low, rough, and uncomfortable.
