Touring boots can sometimes ski like, well, touring boots. Which is exactly why we were excited to find the inbounds-like performance of the Dalbello Lupo AX 110 W in out-of-bounds territory. The cabrio design delivers versatility with a fully removable polyamide tongue for unrestricted uphill travel, plus a noticeable dynamic rebound that brought them to life on the downhill.
Constructed of IRFAN, a lighter and updated version of polyurethane, the Lupo AX shores up fit with three buckles and a power strap to help ensure energy isn’t lost in translation between foot and ski. Out of the box, the 100-millimeter last Lupo AX was comfortable on narrow-ish feet, and better for average-volume feet. No more accidentally slipping into walk mode: The ski/walk toggle only moves if you put enough forward pressure on the boot before flipping it.
Worth considering: At 1640 grams, the Lupo AX 110 not a featherweight touring boot, but we’ll take that trade for the extra performance. --Crystal Sagan
