We’ve officially entered the preseason.

Ski resorts across North America are blowing snow and preparing to spin their lifts. In the case of Lake Louise Ski Resort, Alberta, those preparations have led to a sooner-than-anticipated opening. Today, the resort announced that it will welcome skiers starting Tuesday, November 5th.

The Glacier Express Chair will begin loading at 9 a.m. with access to Bald Eagle, Wiwaxy, and part of Easy Street—all are lower-mountain beginner runs. More terrain is anticipated to open as the season builds momentum. The first 200 skiers in line will receive swag.

In addition to these trails, Lake Louise is preparing a terrain park on Easy Street ahead of Tuesday as well as a portion of its learning area. Group or private lessons will be available.

Attendees can take advantage of 50% off tickets, which will be available online starting Saturday, November 2nd.

Lake Louise credited the early opening to recent snowfalls, cold temperatures, and the hard work of its snowmaking crew. Last winter, the ski resort opened on Friday, November 3rd.

Mt. Norquay, Alberta—another member of the SkiBig3 group—originally hoped to open on November 2nd this year, but they’ve pushed their opening date back to November 9th. Banff Sunshine Village, the third Banff-area ski resort, is tentatively planning to open on November 8th, snow dependent.

At Lake Louise, approximately ten inches of snow have fallen at the mid-mountain this season, with the possibility of more arriving later this month. The resort’s upper mountain is fully clad in white, while the lower reaches have spottier coverage, per the Lake Louise webcams.

This week has seen a flurry of ski resort opening announcements. Lee Canyon, Nevada, is opening on Saturday, November 2nd, as are Arapahoe Basin and Keystone, Colorado. Wolf Creek Ski Area, Colorado, became North America’s lift-accessed frontrunner when it opened on Tuesday, October 22nd.

Other destinations are holding off—for now. Whistler Blackcomb, British Columbia, aims to open on November 22nd. Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, Wyoming, is targeting November 29th.

Wherever you live, though, it’s only a matter of time. Winter’s officially dusted off the cobwebs. Before long, we’ll be neck-deep in the good stuff.
