Schweitzer Offers Comfort and Affordability in '09-'10 Updates
Three big updates help to increase convenience for visiting guests

Sandpoint- Ensuring that families have a convenient, comfortable and affordable ski vacation is the driving force behind everything new for Schweitzer's '09-'10 season.

For those who wish to own a piece of Schweitzer, a new neighborhood is set to premier in November, 2009. Mountainside at Schweitzer will begin as four separate homes – three of which will be fractionally owned and one home owned outright. Mountainside is unique in its sustainable attributes, affordability and luxury.

Featuring some of the latest techniques in sustainable building, Mountainside homes will be LEED certified. With Geothermal and Hydronic heating and driveway snow removal, reclaimed wood flooring, and energy efficient windows and appliances, Mountainside will offer a "green" approach to slopeside living.

The goal behind the neighborhood is to create a feeling of home, which will be achieved by adopting a "concierge component;" When owners come to stay, they can call a concierge who will ready their home with groceries, family photos, and any other possessions or decorations to make the units feel like home before a family's arrival.

Finally, Mountainside at Schweitzer is offering an affordable approach to slopeside living. The units, which will bear a footprint of 1800 to 2900 square feet, will start at just $200,000.

For those looking for a less permanent stay on the mountain, Schweitzer is taking the traditional family ski-and-stay package to the next level by introducing The Schweitzer Difference.

Twelve of the formerly Deluxe Units in the Selkirk Lodge have been transformed into Family Suites. Having only comfortably slept two before, the rooms now feature a bunk bed and can comfortably sleep five. Already equipped with a dining set and kitchenette, these rooms will now allow families to book one room instead of two, thus decreasing the cost of their stay.  The Schweitzer Difference is also offering free breakfast, compliments of the Chimney Rock Grill, for everyone staying in the Selkirk or White Pine Lodge. Starting at just $39 per person, Schweitzer Difference Packages also include two complimentary adult ski clinics with each stay.

Finally, once guests are settled in, to ensure they enjoy their time on the slopes, Schweitzer is finishing phase two of the Snowmaking System installed in the '08-'09 season. In 2008, 6000 ft. of snowmaking line was installed, along with 16 hydrants and two permanent towers, a well and a pump house. Schweitzer's opening last winter was possible due to the snowmaking guns.

In 2009, Schweitzer is finishing up the snowmaking system by building a lined reservoir pond at the top of Stiles Saddle, left of the Great Escape Quad.  It will provide enough water to create 18 inches of snow from the top of the Basin Express to the bottom on the Midway run.

Schweitzer's snowmaking installation is the most energy efficient and low impact snowmaking system available with the latest proven technology. These high tech automated snowmaking guns are able to produce 25% more snow for the amount of energy consumed than other types of systems. They sense when conditions make snowmaking possible and turn on automatically, and also turn off automatically to conserve energy when conditions are not ideal. Schweitzer has lined the pond to prevent leeching and will also provide revegetation and transplanting of native plants throughout the building process.

Schweitzer's system is approximately 40% quieter than other systems on the market today. The retractable hydrants do not create obstacles for skiers and riders, and also have a negligible visual impact. The water and air mix can be adjusted to get just the right density for the purpose, whether it be building a base or topping off the run with fresh powder.

The final phase of snowmaking installation at Schweitzer will ensure, given the proper temperatures, that guests who have booked Holiday vacations will have something to ski on even if the mountain sees little natural snowfall.

Overall, Schweitzer's plans for the year are an effort to create the ease and affordability of a memorable experience for families on a budget, destination skiers and locals.
