From Powder.com — San Clemente, Calif. (Nov. 10) — After 40 years of documenting fun and fresh on the slopes, POWDER magazine will celebrate its 40th Anniversary with a massive party in Sun Valley, Idaho, December 9-11 2011.
To coincide with the launch of the commemorative 40th Anniversary issue, POWDER will return to its birthplace in the historic ski town of Sun Valley. Founded in 1972 by brothers Dave and Jake Moe, the magazine remains true to its mission of recording “the portfolio of the other ski experience,” the subtitle of the first-ever issue.
Now, POWDER invites you—the reader and powder skier—to rejoice in ski history with the personalities that have shaped the sport, from professional skiers, photographers, writers, filmers, past editors, and more.
“In the words of Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes, ‘I’ve had the time of my life… and I owe it all to you,'” says POWDER Editor Derek Taylor. “We’re partying in Sun Valley to celebrate POWDER the life-changing experience POWDER magazine has been for so many over the last four decades, and you really should be there. Clothing optional.”
Starting on Friday, December 9, the anniversary weekend kicks off with the Powder Prom at the Limelight Ballroom. A prom king and queen will be crowned based on dress and overall performance, winning a head-to-toe outerwear setup from Eddie Bauer First Ascent and a dream day of heli skiing with Sun Valley Heli Ski. Tickets for the prom will go on sale within the week, and you must be 18 years old or older to gain admittance.
Saturday will feature a hot dog contest and plenty of Sun Valley shredding. Later in the evening, the contemporary 8,000-square-foot Ochi Gallery will showcase 75 POWDER covers over the years, several of which will be available for live auction to raise money for the non-profit Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation. The day will close out at the Powder Party.
Sun Valley is offering special lodging and lift ticket deals for the weekend, with deals starting as low as $79 for lodging, lunch, lift ticket and a $20 gift card.
