Third and Final Stop of the Paul Mitchell 2008 Opens Freeski Tour Features Superpipe and Slopestyle Events
mount_snowCHICAGO (MARCH 14, 2008) — The Mount Snow Open, March 22-23, 2008, at Mount Snow Resort in West Dover, Vt., is the third and final stop of the Paul Mitchell 2008 Opens Freeski tour. The Mount Snow Open is the only East Coast stop of the high-profile opens tour, which is attracting the brightest young riders in the industry. Mount Snow Resort was selected as the East Coast stop in part because it was voted as the number one freestyle terrain park on the East Coast by Freeskier. The Mount Snow Open will promote Paul Mitchell Open’s Freeski mission of creating a “modern movement in Open freeski events.”

As the one of the closer big-mountain resorts to areas such as New York and Hartford, nearly 100 competitors are expected at the Mount Snow Open to compete in Halfpipe and Slopestyle disciplines. Mount Snow Open Halfpipe qualifying events will be held Saturday morning, March 22, featuring a “jam” format allowing riders to make multiple runs through the halfpipe. The finals of the Halfpipe contest will take place at 1 PM. The Slopestyle competition will be held Sunday, March 9, with the finals in the afternoon. Some of the world’s best freeskiers are expected to compete, including Bobby Brown, winner of the Big Bear Open Slopestyle and Marshall Lacroix, winner of the Big Bear Open Halfpipe. Confirmed riders include Joss Christenson, who took home second in the Big Bear Open Slopestyle, Megan Olenick, who took home first in the women’s Big Bear Open Slopestyle, as well as Willis Brown, Henrik Lampert, and Scottie Hibbert.

Paul Mitchell is continuing its support of emerging freeskiing talent by serving as the title sponsor of the 2008 Opens Freeski tour and has been an avid supporter of freeskiing since 2004. Other confirmed Mount Snow Open sponsors include Navy, Spyder, Fischer, POC Helmets & Armor, Mount Snow Resort and Freeskier magazine. The first event of the tour was the North American Open at Breckenridge, February 21-24, hosted by world renowned freeskiers Jon Olsson and Simon Dumont, followed by the Big Bear Open in Big Bear Lake Calif., on March 8-9.

The 2008 Opens Freeski is a United States Ski Association sanctioned platform of open format freeski events, providing high level competitions in half pipe and slopestyle for men and women. Athletes will be required to be members of the United States Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA) to compete in Opens Freeski events. All Opens Freeski events will be televised on Fuel TV, the only action sports network in the United States.
