(Aspen, CO) December 2, 2009 – Sport Obermeyer and the Aspen community had reason to celebrate this week when snow industry icon Klaus Obermeyer celebrated his 90th birthday on December 2, 2009. After nearly 65 years leading his namesake outerwear brand Sport Obermeyer, Klaus still sits at the helm of the business sharing the torch with his family and executive staff, with his eye on establishing the brand's position and opportunities for the future.
To celebrate Klaus' 90th birthday and the many accomplishments of Sport Obermeyer, a special celebration was planned in his hometown of Aspen including a retrospective and photo exhibition that sits in Aspen's Gondola Plaza. The photo gallery, created by The Public Works, is a visual timeline depicting the history of Klaus Obermeyer and the worldwide brand he created, from the early 1940s to the present. The panel frames are made of locally-harvested fire migration lodgepole pines built by The Public Works of Evergreen, Colorado. The photo gallery will remain in Gondola Plaza through December 6, 2009.
Additionally, a special birthday party was held at the Sundeck atop Aspen Mountain on Wednesday, December 2, to celebrate Klaus' milestone. Over 200 locals, industry VIPs and Klaus' many family members and friends were invited to enjoy strudel, share their favorite Klaus stories, hear a yodel and take a run down Aspen Mountain.
