Grand Targhee Resort Receives 2009 Clif® Bar Golden Eagle Award

Grand Targhee Recognized for Overall Environmental Excellence

(Alta, WY – May 18, 2009) — Grand Targhee Resort was recently awarded the 2009 CLIF® BAR Golden Eagle Award for Overall Environmental Excellence by a ski resort. The award recognizes Grand Targhee for its leadership and participation as a founding member of The Climate Registry <> — the leading greenhouse gas inventory regulator in North America, and for its aggressive greenhouse gas mitigation program. Greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide (CO2) are considered the leading cause of global warming.

Established in 1993, the Golden Eagle Awards for Environmental Excellence recognize the environmental achievements of ski areas. The awards honor members of the National Ski Area Association, which represents the majority of ski area owners and operators in North America. CLIF® BAR & Company, which employs wind energy, biodiesel, waste reduction and other initiatives to reduce its own footprint on the planet, is the administrator of the awards program.

Grand Targhee Resort was also a finalist for a 2009 Silver Eagle award in Environmental Education, and in 2007 received the Silver Eagle Award for Waste Management <> and was a runner-up for the Golden Eagle award in Environmental Excellence.

In addition to a comprehensive approach to sustainable practices throughout the resort, Grand Targhee Resort recently awarded over $8000 in grants to local non-profits for environmental projects as part of the Targhee Protect Our Winters Foundation. Grand Targhee Resort is one of four grant recipients from the new NSAA Sustainable Slopes Grant Program <> and will use the grant to partially fund a feasibility study for a composting greenhouse. GTR is also a pilot study project for the Greater Yellowstone Framework for Sustainable Development <> , helping to create a regionally-based rating system for sustainable development.
