Porter Fox said it best when, in the September 2016 issue of POWDER, he wrote: It is divine–every single day you are on the hill. It is a gift and a privilege. If you take it for granted, you are missing everything.
Working to give back to the ski industry and contributing to the future of the sport has always been paramount to us at The Skier’s Magazine, which is why POWDER has created a new opportunity for us all to work together to support nonprofits in the ski community.
You can now buy the brand new, never used sample skis from last year’s Buyer’s Guide. Every year, these sample skis are shipped to our office for the creation of the Buyer’s Guide and now, instead of sending them back, brands have opted to donate these new and unused skis to be sold in the Powder Shop where 100 percent of the proceeds from all sales will be directly donated to our nonprofit partners, including:
Protect Our Winters
Protect Our Winters is a passionate crew of diehards, professional athletes, and industry brands mobilizing the outdoor sports community to lead the charge towards positive climate action. We focus on educational initiatives, political advocacy, and community-based activism.
Send It Foundation
The Send It Foundation creates outdoor adventures for young adult cancer fighters and survivors, removing them from their cancer experience and creating the space to play, sweat, connect, and have fun outdoors.
The Shane McConkey Foundation
The goal of the Foundation is twofold: carry on McConkey’s legacy through random acts of kindness and charitable giving and to inspire others to make a difference in the world at large. Together, over the last six years, the Shane McConkey Foundation and its supporters have raised money for countless organizations.
We serve 5,000 at-risk youth between the ages of 8 and 18 annually. As a youth development non-profit, we use year-round, outdoor sports to engage underserved students in long-term mentor based relationships. Our core value curriculum integrates outdoor experiential learning, character development, community service, values-based leadership development, social justice advocacy, and peer mentoring.
American Institute for Avalanche Rescue and Education
The American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education has developed and continues to develop a standardized curriculum for a complete program of avalanche courses that meets the needs of students at all levels, from recreational to professional and from novice to advanced.
