Kids are thanking Ullr and rejoicing this winter in Southwest Colorado. The Telluride school district canceled school for the only the third time in 15 years due to the overwhelming amount of snow to hammer the end-of-the-road town. The ski area has received 85 inches in December and 62 inches in January, making it the best (in terms of snowfall) December and January in 10 years. In fact, this year’s snowfall has already exceeded all of the 2014-15 season.
Starting Saturday, January 30, and ending on Tuesday, February 2, another snowstorm delivered “probably the best storm of the year,” according to filmer Brett Schreckengost. The local photographer and filmer went on to say that the snow fell on a good base that’s been relatively stable.
Schreckengost also captured the storm with still shots in a Storm Distpach photo gallery posted here earlier this week.
