Event starts to fill up as storms pound Taos.
If you’ve been thinking about competing against the world’s best, at New Mexico’s largest and most prestigious
skiing and snowboarding event, the time has come to pull the trigger. With more than 35 inches of new snow in
the last five days and more on the way, conditions have never been better at Taos. And with a talent packed field
featuring athletes from around the globe, now is the time to test yourself against the mountain and some of the
best skiers and snowboarders on the planet. Because, in the immortal words of Warren Miller, “if you don’t do it
this year, you’ll only be one year older when you do.”
“We have enjoyed one of the best seasons in recent history,” says Taos’ Alejandro Blake. “The conditions are
epic, and registration is rapidly filling up for the 2010 Salomon Extreme Freeride Championships. If you are think-
ing of being part of the event, don’t wait to sign up. We expect registration to sell out again this year.”
“It’s rare that we can accommodate athletes who show up at the last minute,” adds Chief of Race Tom Winter.
“This year the venues are in amazing shape and the skiing at Taos is fantastic. This event will sell out.”
Held from March 10 – 13, Salomon Extreme Freeride Championships at Taos is New Mexico’s largest and most
prestigious ski and snowboard competition, attracting athletes from around the world and featuring a $12,000
purse. The event is a Freeride World Qualifier (FWQ) event, allowing athletes to gain entry to the Freeride World
Tour’s four showcase events: The Nissan Russian Adventure (Sochi, Russia), Nissan Tram Face (Squaw Valley,
USA), Nissan Freeride de Chamonix (Chamonix, France) and Nissan Xtreme (Verbier, Switzerland). Taos also
joins an elite group of venues, from Italy and Norway to Austria and Slovakia as a FWQ venue.
