Watch: Poor Boyz ‘Undiscovered’ Winner Shreds the Chilean Backcountry

And start dreaming about South America's winter early this year

Owen Leeper is aptly named. Watch the big mountain skier from Jackson Hole get sendy in this edit from Poor Boyz, shot on a 2015 trip to Chile. The co-founder of custom pole company Bold Poles straightlines narrow couloirs, cleans up some serious big mountain lines, and backflips off of just about everything in the two-minute edit, including a huge backcountry booter.

Leeper connected with Poor Boyz’ through their inaugural Undiscovered contest, a bid to find talented skiers who aren’t getting media attention. The contest, similar to Level 1’s Superunknown, asked skiers to submit a 90-second video for the chance to win a $5,000 prize and, of course, a trip to Chile. They selected five winners: Leeper, Giray Dadali, Josh Barilar, Dave Van Ham and Ian Hamilton.

“Not knowing what to expect from the other entries, I had no idea that I would win. It was a trip like I’ve never been on before, a dream trip come true,” says Leeper. “I have never been on a trip where I wasn’t always worried about doing it as cheap as possible so it was truly unique for all of us to just focus on skiing.”

Leeper just wrapped up a successful third season in Jackson Hole, and is looking forward to a summer of mountaineering in the Tetons. “I still have a few lines in the Tetons to ski, including Mt. Owen. I’m also training for a big month long ski mountaineering mission this May,” says Leeper. Check him out on Instagram at @o_leeps to keep track of his adventures.
