Words and photos by Matt Hansen
For two weeks in March, Powder senior editor Matt Hansen covered 400 very curvy and narrow miles of mountain roads in the French Alps. The objective: visit the birthplace of modern ski manufacturing, bridge the gap between past and present, and meet those who are making it happen, in the factories and on the hill. And oh yeah, he also skied, hitting seven resorts along the way. The only real plan was to track down the best snow, letting nightly accommodations and personal hygiene fall as they may. The following photo gallery is just a teaser for his upcoming feature in Powder, which will hit newsstands next fall.
