With spring upon us, the snow and weather conditions at Kirkwood Resort the morning of Sunday, March 21 for the 2010 Rip Curl GromSearch were nothing short of spectacular. The top 16/ under groms from the Lake Tahoe area congregated to the Tiber Creek Lodge at 9 am in anticipation for an epic day of competition.
The playful, short-course offered the competitors a venue to raise the bar and get creative. Top groms pumped out switch tricks and 540 or even 720 spin rotations. Rip Curl values progression and was pumped to watch the kids push the limits throughout the day.
Boys 16/under event winner, Tre Charrette had stiff competition by the Orr brothers, Denver and Dustin, who took 2nd and 3rd respectively. Both boys possessed the style and commitment in their runs to take the win from Tre, but Tre's last, big run solidified the win for 14-year-old. In the ladies division, Emily Leach took first while Emma Stone battled it out for the runner-up spot. In the ski division, Grant Ketels threw down a 720 off the end kicker and ran away with the win.
All competitors received a Rip Curl goodie bag and the top three competitors from each division got prize bags full of gear ranging from Rip Curl goggles to the most recent Rip Curl Mountain jackets. Tre received another year sponsorship with Rip Curl for taking the Boys 16/under division. We are stoked to having him representing for another year. Other standouts of the day were Chris Kein in the boys snowboard, Becca Mace in the ski and the youngest competitor, Jackson Barber, 5 years old, for his comeback after a big fall in the first run.
We are looking forward to much more next year so mark your calendars for early March 2011 and stay tuned to www.ripcurl.com, www.kirkwood.com, or follow us at twitter.com/ripcurl1969 and facebook.com/ripcurl.
