Skier’s Choice: Jackets

Reviews on the top ski jackets of the year, based on reviews from Thread The Needle

Every year, the POWDER staff and a few compatriots gather at Solitude, Utah, for our annual apparel event—Thread The Needle. Some may wonder why we need to devote an entire week to skiing in new jackets. A jacket is a jacket, right? Actually, you’d be surprised at how much you learn about the fit, the functionality, that little cord in the hood just by skiing in the garment for an hour. The jackets above are the ones that performed the best. They’ll keep you dry, but air out your pits and sweat. They will shield you from the wind, and let you layer beneath. The hoods fit over helmets. The sleeves and cut are long enough. All that’s left for you to find out is which fits your style.
