Due to temperatures in the high 60s, spring skiing is on hold at Mountain High. The southern California resort set 80 miles northeast of Los Angeles closed February 28 due to a lack of snow, but is planning to reopen on March 11.
“A stormy March is somewhat typical of El Niños, and the long-range weather forecast shows a change toward a more active pattern,” Mountain High said in a statement.
The ski area, which closed in mid April last year, is counting on cooling temperatures and an upcoming storm to give them enough new snow to reopen for a spring finish. So Cal ski area Big Bear reported being 100 percent open on February 28, while Mount Baldy has already closed for the season.
