I have lived in Mammoth for 17 years and we are used to long and big winters. However getting snow in October is not that uncommon, but being able ski a classic like Bloody Couloir in early October is definitely a treat! In those 17 years I have had three different October ski adventures, all with my good friend and ski partner “Powder Dan” Molnar. This year making your first turns of the season on a classic like Bloody is exceptionally memorable.
Anybody who has visited Mammoth or lives here knows the lure of Bloody Mountain as it stands above most of the mountains with the prominent view of the “Bloody Couloir”.
As a skier it is just begging you to ski it, not to mention I stare at that peak every day from my house. So it is kind of a right of passage, or right of winter to take a lap on Bloody Mountain, either early, mid or late season. Hopefully this season finishes the way it started and we are back up there taking our last run in July.
