One of the first-ever live webcasts of an avalanche awareness clinic goes live tonight at 6:30 p.m. MST. Park City’s White Pine Touring and Jans.com in conjunction with the American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education (AIARE) teamed up to host a snow safety education lecture. The event at the Park City High School is free to the public. Guest presenters will be IFMGA certified Mountain Guides and AIARE instructors Johanthan Spitzer and Freddy Grossniklaus. The presentation will feature avalanche safety basics while traveling in the mountains, especially in the backcountry.

The timing of the event coincides with a human-triggered avalanche at about 12 p.m. today on Dutch Draw peak outside the resort boundary of The Canyons near Park City. Fortunately, the skier who triggered the avalanche mid-slope escaped to safety.

Attendees of the inaugural event will have a chance to win free prizes from Scott, FlyLow, The North Face, Smartwool, Black Diamond, and Patagonia.
