Alta—if you’ve been there, you know how the place consumes you. From Wildcat to the Goldminer’s Daughter, Alta will always be a part of every skier that drives up Little Cottonwood Canyon. Few know this better than Powder Senior Photographer Lee Cohen. Cohen, who’s been playing with the idea of releasing a book for five to seven years, recently debuted Alta Magic, a collection of photos and essays from 30 years of exploring the area and making it his home.

“I’ve been wanting to make an Alta book for some time,” said Cohen on Friday, December 28, at the Alta Arts Center where he threw a book launch.

The 160-page book is available on LeeCohen.com for $33.95 plus shipping and handling. It includes Cohen’s most iconic shots as well as essays from former POWDER Editor Derek Taylor, Rob Story, Caroline Gleich, POWDER Director of Photographer David Reddick, Onno Wieringa, and many more.

“This place is special because of the snow and the people that are here for skiing,” adds Cohen. “Anyone who knows Alta, knows what Alta magic is.”
