If there’s one thing TNG can get behind, it’s Sweetgrass and sweeeeet grass. Get it? Actually, I hope I don’t get fired for putting that online. I’ll take my chances. The film guys from Colorado are following up last year’s Signatures with a two-year project and joining them on their sweet powder journey is POWDER Magazine draftee (The Draft…February 2009), 17-year-old Leo Ahrens. POWDER readers, meet Leo. Leo, meet the POWDER readers. They can be fierce.
The New Guy
Name: Leo Ahrens
Hometown: Cottonwood Heights, Utah
Where you may have seen me before: Spinnin’ laps in Little Cottonwood Canyon or competing on the Jr. Freesking Tour
How did you hook up with the guys at Sweetgrass Productions? Word of mouth I guess.
Tell us about your filming experience with Sweetgrass: Sweetgrass is a really cool ’cause it’s a group of skiers that film for the love of skiing, not to become the next big pro and the films Sweetgrass produce reflect that love.
What is your favorite ski movie segment of all time? No idea. Abma never ceases to amaze, Candide is an alien, Sage is a jedi, Sean Pettit… they all produce amazing segments.
If you could produce your perfect segment, what’s in that segment? Where are you skiing? It would start out with an epic Wildcat session after a huge storm, then some mini golf lines in Jackson with jumps built in the middle of lines, then into some bigger lines with natural features in Canada, then more jumps in Japan, then Switzerland, then France, then Alaska, then South America, then home.
What are your plans for the summer… Er… South American winter? I’ve never been to South America so I don’t really know what to expect. I’m hoping to ski some fun lines and jumps off some stuff. I also just want to take in what Argentina has to offer.
What can people expect to see from you in Sweetgrass Productions’ new flick? Well… heading down to Argentina with me is John Collinson and Carston Oliver. I’m guessing if you take big lines, backcountry booters, and big tricks and put them into a blender, you might get something close to what we hope to offer!
