To get to Juneau, you have to take a plane. There are no roads that cross from the mainland to the remote island. The capital city of Alaska since 1906, Juneau is also home to a community-owned ski area by the name of Eaglecrest. It's not as well known for skiing as some of the state's heli ski destinations, however, Eaglecrest is an undiscovered gem mostly used by locals. Winters are long and the city averages 63 inches of rain a year. But when it's cold, the snow is deep and the skiing is good.
