Movies Announced for The Meeting 2009
Teton Gravity Research Movie to Play at The Sundeck
Aspen/Snowmass, Colo., August 20, 2009 – The fifth year of The Meeting presented by Audi, a gathering of top snowsports filmmakers, athletes, sponsors and media, will convene once again in Aspen, Colo. September 24-27, 2009.
For the first time in Meeting history, Teton Gravity Research’s Re:Session will play at 11,212 feet at the Sundeck on the top of Aspen Mountain on Friday, September 25, 2009.
Other movies to show at this year’s Meeting at the Wheeler Opera House and Belly Up in Aspen are:
“The B” by Burton – For the 2010 snowboard season, Burton is proud to present “The B.” A major snowboarding motion picture showcasing the riding of Jeremy Jones, Jussi Oksanen, Nicolas Müller, Frederik Kalbermatten, Keegan Valaika, Shaun White and more. “The B” was filmed on location everywhere with good snow from Australia to Europe to Alaska, and features the quite possibly the most iconic feature ever captured on film. It’s all downhill from here.
Nice Try by People –With two highly acclaimed films under their belts, the creators of We’re People Too and Down With People are back with the newest release Nice Try, featuring a progressive crew of riders including fresh additions Wille Yli-Luoma, Seth Huot, Robbie Walker, Snowboarder Rookie of the Year Eiki Helgason, and TransWorld Rookie of the Year Lucas Debari. Follow the crew as they creatively destroy urban spots, find the coolest way down the highest peaks, and just send it—see the good times and good tricks as our People get after it or at least give it a Nice Try.
Get Real by Transworld Snowboarding –This raw film delivers hammering, up-close action with a diverse cast of riders shot entirely in crystal-clear HD format. From the peaks of Alaska to the streets of Minneapolis to the silent forests of Japan, Get Real takes viewers on an adventure straight to the core of modern snowboarding. Featuring Scotty Lago, Jed Anderson, Eero Niemela, Patrick McCarthy, Scott Stevens, Kyle Clancy, Mikey Rencz, Sammy Luebke, Chris Grenier, Devun Walsh, Iikka Backstrom, Bjorn Leines and Benji Richie.
Stance by JMills Ent. – This film will reexamine women’s snowboarding from the inside out. Re:Session by Teton Gravity Research –The award winning producers at Teton Gravity Research (TGR) present their newest 16mm and HD film, Re: Session. Follow the crew as they score in one of Alagna, Italy’s deepest seasons on record. Check out forbidden powder in Poland, massive wedges in Colorado, new gap jumps in Utah and seven weeks of epic riding conditions in Alaska. IN DEEP by Matchstick Productions –From North America to destinations worldwide, IN DEEP will take an original look at the sport of skiing. IN DEEP features Mark Abma, Sean Pettit, Eric Hjorleifson, Daron Rahlves, Henrik Windstedt, Chris Davenport, Bobby Brown, Colby West, TJ Schiller, Mike Douglas, Ingrid Backstrom, Jacob Wester, Russ Henshaw, Henrik Harlaut, JT Holmes, Sammy Carlson, Shane McConkey and more. MSP was faced with tragedy this year when long time friend and star skier Shane McConkey died in a BASE jumping accident. This film will feature a McConkey tribute highlighting his incredible career as a pro skier.
Refresh by Level 1 –Level 1 looks back and challenges perspectives of where the sport has come from, and where it’s going in their tenth-anniversary offering, Refresh. Contrast by Nimbus –Skiing is about more than the latest trick and best action from the previous season. With that in mind, Nimbus Independent is proud to announce their second high definition motion picture, titled Contrast. The new film examines the difference between objects, people, concepts, color, light and the skiing of Pep Fujas, Eric Pollard, Chris Benchetler, Andy Mahre and Blake Nyman.
NEPSA Video Awards
The seventh annual NEPSA Video Awards kick off The Meeting on Thursday, September 24, at the Wheeler Opera House. The NEPSA Awards provide an opportunity for athletes and filmmakers to work together in crafting and debuting their own ski/snowboard movie while competing for a cash prize. This year’s event has three themes from which participants can choose; There’s no Place Like Home, Neon and Ski & the City. The Meeting is the season kick-off event for industry as they view brand new ski and snowboard movies, as well as engage in private sessions with guest speakers, allowing for discussion on the state of the industry.
