WILLISTON, VT – February 18, 2013 – Ski The East is pleased to announce the 4th Annual 2013 Ski The East Freeride Tour (STEFT). The STEFT is the first and only event series of its kind on the East Coast and prides itself on continuing the tradition of bringing the region’s best all-mountain skiers to the most challenging venues to compete for cash, prizes, and notoriety.
2013 Ski The East Freeride Tour Schedule
STOP #1 – Mad River Glen – Unconventional Terrain Competition – February 23, 2013
STOP #2 – Magic Mountain – Southern Vermont Freeskiing Challenge – March 2, 2013
STOP #3 – Sugarbush – 15th Annual Castlerock Extreme Challenge – March 9, 2013
STOP #4 – Jay Peak Resort – Extreme Competition – March 16 & 17, 2013
Before the STEFT, the four resorts produced events that were unrelated, but were individually considered among the most challenging competitions on the East Coast. Each has built their own dedicated following and longstanding history, with some touting over 15 years of existence. “Though it’s modeled on Western freeskiing competitions, the East’s beast has its own Yankee appeal. Case in point: The East provides the best training grounds with steep, rocky, and narrow terrain that prepares skiers for anything out West or around the world.” – Sugarbush Magazine
By integrating these four events into a collaborative tour, the STEFT is delivering a heightened level of competition, camaraderie, and exposure for the contestants and the host resorts.
For 2013, STEFT has officially partnered with new sponsors Subaru of New England, Long Trail, Vermont Spirits, and Flylow Gear, and Bern Unlimited will be a returning sponsor for the fourth year in a row. There will continue to be a bounty of awards and prizes, including an overall tour cash purse of $4,000. Additional signature STEFT awards include the coveted Ski The East “Shot-Ski Trophy,” presented to the male and female first place finishers of each event, as well as a Bern helmet for the “Cliff Huckstable Award,” which will go to the athlete who executes the Best Air.
SkiTheEast.net will provide extensive media coverage at each event including news articles, photography, video edits, and a STEFT compilation video at the end of the winter. They will also facilitate event awareness on a larger scale through garnering mainstream print, television, and internet coverage.
The STEFT aims to continue growing the Eastern freeride community by offering a unique platform for the collaboration, recognition, and progression of competitive freeskiing within the region.
