From Kästle — Jan. 31 — Kästle has signed a four-year contact with Colby West, as an athlete but also to aid the design team in the development of a line of park and pipe skis. The partnership begins with Colby skiing on multiple series of prototypes in training and in comps, such at the 2011 X Games. West joins Kästle with a stout resume as a three-time WX bronze medalist, two Slopestyle and one SuperPipe. From 2007–09 Colby has medaled each year he has attended Winter X. West has quickly ascended to the top of the freeskiing world landing on the podium in multiple disciplines. A natural in front of the camera, West films with Matchstick productions, Warren Miller, and others.

“We’re extremely happy to have Colby on the Kästle Pro Team,” notes Siegfried Rumpfhuber, Kästle president. “We scouted the park and pipe scene very closely for the last 24 months, trying to find the right athlete both in performance and personality. Colby impresses with the versatility in his skiing and presence on film. He is one of the very rare athletes competing in Pipe, Slopestyle and Big Air, which is a great asset for Kästle skis. He is ideal for us to work with while we expand our offerings into a new arena of skiing for the company. We look forward to seeing him push boundaries as an athlete, but also as integral part of our design team. Colby and Kästle have a shared dream, which is a medal at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, and the partnership is built around a four-year plan towards that goal.”

West joins a dynamic, international group of skiers on the 2011 Kästle Pro Team, which now includes: Hugo Harrisson (CAN), Sascha Schmid (SUI), Chris Davenport (USA), Griffin Post (USA), Giulia Monego (ITA), Lorraine Huber (AUT), Karine Falck-Pedersen (NOR), and Jackie Paaso (USA).

“Colby is the right addition to our versatile team,” notes Rumpfhuber. “We continue to target a variety accomplished athletes that are moving the margins in multiple skiing disciplines, both on the competition front and in the worldwide expeditions they tackle. He shares an energetic drive for evolving the sport that inspires all of us at Kästle.”
