Swans form monogamous bonds that last for many years, and in some cases these bonds can last for life. Similarly, choosing a puffy jacket is serious, binding, and lasting commitment. When I first met the Hellly Hansen Icefall Down Jacket, I wasn’t looking for anything serious. I tried it on, solely out of curiosity, but the moment I zipped in, I had an inkling this jacket and I could be in for the long haul.

The ultra-lightweight jacket features 700-fill-power down and Primasoft Silver water-resistant insulation that keeps me warm and dry (while I wouldn’t wear this jacket for a romantic picnic in the rain, I’ve weathered a few drizzles in it without any problems) but without suffocating me. It’s important your jacket lets you breath—even if you’re in love. Which you may be after you get to know the handwarmer pockets, hidden inner chest pocket, and small details like the adjustable hood.

They say it’s the little things that keep love alive, but looks don’t hurt either—the Icefall Down Jacket has those too. The long, flattering fit is both fashionable and functional. The jacket is also sold in a men’s version.

Skiing hot: Great for travel, this puffy packs down small into the provided stuff-stack. Instant travel pillow.
Skiing not: Size up.
