BCA’s New Airbag Pack is Smaller, Lighter

The BCA Float 27 Speed has more usable pack space, increased psi

The POWDER staff is attending SIA in Denver this week—the snow sports industry’s biggest trade show, where we are getting a first look at the best gear for skiers. For more reviews and first looks at new gear, go here.

New for the 17/18 season, the BCA Float 27 Speed avalanche airbag includes a new Float 2.0 engine that is 30 percent smaller, 20 percent lighter. The refillable avalanche airbag compressed air cylinder now releases 3,000 psi of compressed air, (up from 2,700) when inflating the airbag in addition to pulling in more ambient air than previous models.

To create more packable space inside, BCA has moved all canisters and hoses inside a zippered compartment in the top of the pack. They’ve also limited the the pack to one single compartment (no separate pocket for shovels or probes) to eliminate extra layers and reduce weight. Still standard is the diagonal ski carry system.
