Pro Freeskiers Andrew Sheppard and Sean Cochrane Take Gold at Revelstoke
Mountain Resort’s Big Mountain Battle
DELTA, B.C. (March 10, 2010) — Pro freeskiers Andrew Sheppard and Sean Cochrane, of team Brewhaha, took gold with a time of 1:05:16 at the Helly Hansen Big Mountain Battle’s Revelstoke Mountain Resort stop.
Team Killin’It’s David Marfleet and Andres Raun grabbed silver, crossing the finish line at 1:06:55. Rowdy Rowdy Skookum’s Alexandre Bergeron and Julie Gamache received the bronze with a time of 1:07:16.
The race challenged 45 two-person teams to an intense, big-mountain course, designed and tested by Revelstoke’s own ski patrollers.
Each team was tracked using FLAIK GPS, a unique tracking device that provided race officials with real-time data, including ascents and descents, on each team. Ski Patrol’s Chad Hephill and Neville Bugden were awarded the Fastest Hike for their time of 8:52.
“This was our first year hosting the contest at Revelstoke and we’re really excited by the strong support we received from the resort and the community,” said Marc Campbell, the organizer behind Helly Hansen’s Big Mountain Battle.
Sheppard and Cochrane won an all-expense-paid trip to Aspen/Snowmass where they’ll square off in the final Battle in the Bowls, March 28. But before that final showdown can occur, the Big Mountain Battle will make two more stops at Stevens Pass Ski Area, WA (Mar 13); and Smugglers’ Notch Resort, VT (Mar 20); and send two more two-person teams on all-expense-paid trips to the Aspen/Snowmass event. More than 435 skiers have participated in Helly Hansen’s Big Mountain Battle this season.
Cost for the event is $75 per team and includes two Helly Hansen LIFA® base layers valued at $45 each.
